TipuLearners go further
— what we do —
Rather than matching your child to a single tutor and leaving you to manage it, we build a small team around them — subject teaching, mentors, and a family lead who speaks to you directly.
Tipu is an online tutoring practice for students from primary to A-Level. The team holds together across the years, so the support doesn’t restart every time something changes.
Meet the teamwhy this way
Everyone does one thing well, rather than one person doing six things adequately.
One tutor is expected to be the subject expert, the motivator, the organiser, the pastoral support, the SEND specialist and the person who reports back to you, all in an hour a week. Something always gets dropped. So we split the job up.
Why we built it this wayWho we’re for
Students from primary to A-Level, and most often the ones for whom a single tutor was never going to be enough.
Many of our students are autistic, and some are also ADHD, dyslexic or dyspraxic. Sessions are built around processing time, predictable structure, low-demand starts and clear expectations, with tutors who don't treat difference as something to manage.
Whether by choice or because school stopped working. We can take a single subject or the whole timetable, work to exam board specifications, and support you through entry as a private candidate.
School refusal, anxiety, burnout, or a term that has simply gone wrong. This is exactly why a tutor on their own is rarely enough, and why we offer a mentor alongside the teaching.
Grades have slipped, or a subject was never solid to begin with, and confidence has gone with it. We find what's actually missing rather than assuming — often it turns out to be two years back rather than in this term's content.
Some students are years ahead of where they're sitting. A Year 9 working at A-Level standard doesn't need another worksheet — they need harder material, someone who can keep up, and a reason to care.

how to start
And if we're not the right fit, we'll say so.
- one
We start with a conversation.
With you, and with your child if they want to be in it. It takes fifteen minutes. We're trying to understand what's actually going on rather than sell you a package.
- two
Then we build the team.
Chosen for your child rather than pulled off a rota, and shaped by what the year in front of them actually needs. We aim for you to meet everyone before anything starts.
- three
Then we run the term with you.
Usually the same tutor in the same slot each week. Written feedback after every session, and a note home we aim to send each Friday, telling you what was covered and what was hard. One person you can contact when something changes.
the ensemble
Not one tutor. A team, pulling the same way.
Each role has its own job, and the family lead holds them together. Many of our tutors sat these exams recently enough to remember the papers. One plan, one shared note, one weekly rhythm.
Subject tutor
One for each subject, matched to the exam board and to how your child learns. Owns the syllabus and the pace.
Mentor
Works around the lessons, not in them: study habits, exam nerves and the week-to-week rhythm.
Family lead
Your one point of contact, who keeps the team pulling the same way. Replies within one working day.
Neurodiversity lead
When your child needs it, sets how their sessions run and aims to brief each new tutor before they start.

what we stand for
The setting is not a detail.
A classroom is one way to learn. For plenty of students it’s the single biggest obstacle in the way — so we teach where the learning actually happens.
A classroom is one way to learn and it suits some students very well. For plenty of others it's the single biggest obstacle in the way. We teach where the learning actually happens — at the kitchen table, standing up, in short bursts, or at a time of day when a particular brain switches on. The setting is not a detail.

Find out more about Better time, not more timeA system that treats every week as identical will fail most students, because most students don't have identical weeks. Ours bends around illness, competitions, exam season, bad patches and good ones.

You don't need to chase, ask, or dig. We aim to send a plain note from the team each Friday, and the week ahead is already on the page.

what families say
Gaps found. A plan made. Confidence built.
Grades are the receipt. The work is the point.
“Very reliable, huge experience in teaching… and they’re very good at assessing a child’s needs. Our child achieved 2 grades higher than predicted.”
“She is very confident that if you hadn’t helped her she would not have received the grades she needed to get into Bath!”
“Working through questions together gave [him] a massive confidence boost… The result was amazing, [he] improved two grades in both subjects and got into his Maths and Physics A level course!”
“Even though I was based in Germany, they were incredibly flexible… What I appreciated most was that the support didn’t just stop when the lesson ended.”

a note on pricing
One price every 4 weeks, not a per-lesson bill.
- · A price every 4 weeks built from the subjects and hours we agree, shown line by line before you say yes.
- · Each subject is its own line, and so is mentoring if your child has it.
- · Quoted after the call — we’d rather understand the year than put a number on it first.

the summit
Let's build the quiet team your family deserves.
One 15-minute call. No hard sell. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you — and often point you somewhere better.
