Tipu is an online tutoring practice for students from primary to A-Level. Rather than matching your child to a single tutor and leaving you to manage it, we build a small team around them.
why Tipu exists
Parents couldn't see it happening.
I spent four years tutoring one-to-one before Tipu existed, and I saw the same thing over and over. Parents were paying for their child’s education and had no idea what was happening inside it.
I wrote up every session properly. I tracked what was actually improving and what wasn’t, and I said so — including when the honest answer was that we weren’t getting anywhere yet.
None of that is complicated, and the agencies I saw weren’t doing it. Families noticed immediately. It became obvious that the thing they valued most wasn’t the hour of teaching, it was finally being able to see their child’s education happening.
Tipu is that, built properly and built to scale, so it doesn’t depend on one tutor caring enough to do it off their own back.

why this way
It was never one person's job to begin with.
We expect a single teacher to be an expert in a curriculum that changes most years, to plan, teach, mark and feed back to thirty students, to be a safeguarding lead, to notice who isn't eating and who is quietly falling apart — then answer to thirty sets of parents about all of it. No one can do all of that well. It isn't a failing on the teacher's part, it's an impossible job description.
what we did instead
So we split the job up.
Tutoring has quietly inherited the same problem. One tutor is expected to be the subject expert, the motivator, the organiser, the pastoral support, the SEND specialist and the person who reports back to you, all in an hour a week. Something always gets dropped.
The teacher teaches, and that’s all they carry. The mentor handles habits, workload and the parts of the week that aren’t a lesson. The family lead handles communication with you. Safeguarding sits with our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Christian Hehir, whose actual role it is. How we keep children safe.
