Your information, and who sees it.

About this page

This page is for you if you have lessons with Tipu. It tells you what we keep about you, who can see it, and what you can do about it.

Your parent or guardian has a longer version: our privacy notice.

If you’re under 13

  • We keep your name, your year, your subjects and the things you add to your pages.
  • Your tutor, your parent or guardian, and the people in our office can see them.
  • We don’t track what you do on your pages.
  • If anything worries you, tell your parent, a teacher or another adult you trust. You can tell us too.

The rest of this page says more. You could read it with your parent or guardian.

If you’re 13 to 17

The rest of this page is written for you. Your information has the same protection as an adult’s. You can ask us about it yourself, and you don’t need your parent to do it for you.

What we keep about you

What your parent told us: your name, your year, your subjects, and the email address you sign in with.

What you add: how long you study, how confident you feel about each topic, your revision planner (including the times you said you’re free), your exam dates, and the homework you hand in.

What your tutor adds: a report after each lesson, marks and comments on your homework, your grades now and the grades you’re aiming for, and notes on how you learn best. If your parent agrees, your tutor can also note any extra help you get, like extra time in exams. You can take that agreement back yourself, on your account page. If you do, your parent can’t just agree again: only you can change it back.

You’re allowed to see these notes too. Ask your tutor or email us, and we’ll show you.

What our office adds: your lesson times.

Who can see it

Your tutor can see all of it while they teach you. When they stop teaching you, they can only see the reports and notes they wrote themselves, and the details of the lessons they gave you.

Your parent or guardian can see:

  • how many minutes you study
  • how confident you feel about each topic
  • your revision planner, including when you’re free
  • your exam dates
  • your homework, and your tutor’s marks and comments
  • your tutor’s lesson reports, your grades and the notes on how you learn best

Lesson reports are usually emailed to you, to your parent or guardian, and to anyone who pays for your lessons.

Your tutor also keeps a few working notes, just for teaching you. Your parent or guardian doesn’t see those day to day. They can ask us for a copy of everything we hold about you, which includes them. If you’re old enough to understand that, we’ll ask you first.

Our office can see your information too, so we can arrange your lessons and help if something goes wrong.

Your lessons happen on Microsoft Teams. We don’t record them.

If you send homework on WhatsApp, WhatsApp carries it to us.

We never sell your information. Some companies run parts of our website for us, and they can only use it to do that job. We only share it with anyone else if the law says we must, or if we’re worried you might not be safe.

Nobody tracks you on your pages

We don’t use analytics when you sign in, on your student pages, on this page, or on our safeguarding page. That’s true even if someone said yes to cookies on the same computer.

If a page breaks, we get an error report so we can fix it. It doesn’t include your name.

When you turn 18

At 18, your information is yours to look after, not your parent’s. In Year 13 we will ask you whether your parent or guardian should still see your account. If you would like them to stop, tell us, from your account page or by email, and we’ll turn it off.

Asking about your information

You can ask us to:

  • show you what we keep about you
  • fix anything that’s wrong
  • delete it. We sometimes have to keep a few things, like a record of what was paid.

Email contact@tipu-learn.com. It’s free, and we’ll answer within a month.

If you’re unhappy with how we answer, tell us on our complaints page. If you’re still unhappy, you can tell the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Worried about something?

If something in a lesson or online made you feel uncomfortable, or you’re worried about yourself or someone else, tell someone. That could be your parent or guardian, a teacher, or us.

Email us at contact@tipu-learn.com with the word “Safeguarding” in the subject, and the right person will read it. Our safeguarding page says what happens next, and lists people you can talk to for free, like Childline.

If you are in danger right now, call 999.
